Featured Treatment Balloon Sinuplasty:

Balloon Sinuplasty is a new treatment for children and adults who chronically suffer from sinusitis. Balloon Sinuplasty, designed by Acclarent, a Johnson & Johnson Company, is an endoscopic sinus surgery technique that allows physicians to treat sinus disease entirely through the nostrils and, in many cases, without tissue or bone removal.

Traditionally, patients were only offered two treatment options—medical therapy (antibiotics and nasal steroids) or endoscopic sinus surgery, which requires bone and tissue removal to open blocked sinus passageways. With Balloon Sinuplasty, sinuses are opened in the same way that doctors open blocked coronary arteries during a balloon angioplasty. The technology is minimally invasive and safe.

A two-year study by the Clinical Evaluation to Confirm Safety and Efficacy in the Paranasal Sinuses found that 92 percent of patients have had success with Balloon Sinuplasty.

In February 2009, Dr. Calloway became one of the first surgeons in Tulare County to perform the procedure, according to Acclarent.

Balloon Sinuplasty is helping patients get off antibiotics for chronic infections and improving quality of life. Additionally, there is usually only one to two days of post-op recovery downtime.

Dr. Calloway is the most experienced ear, nose, and throat doctor in the South Valley with Balloon Sinuplasty in children and adults, according to Acclarent.
